Meet Mae — Stroke at age 14 months

Mae was 14 months old when she had a stroke. Through quick action of emergency department doctors and staff her life was saved.

In the days after the stroke, she regained the ability to walk again. Mae has since had two more surgeries. One to remove the cavernous malformation that caused the stroke and a cranioplasty to replace the bone removed during her initial surgery. Mae receives speech and physical therapy to improve her left-sided weakness and speech delays caused by the stroke.

As a parent of a child that has had a serious health condition, nothing can prepare you for the helpless feeling of seeing your child go through such pain, but alternatively also being astounded at your child’s ability to overcome huge odds. Mae is now 2 years old and continues to amaze her family with her resilience. She is a force of nature.
