Dr. Catherine Amlie-Lefond
Dr. Catherine Amlie-Lefond is a pediatric neurologist and clinical researcher. She founded and directs the Pediatric Vascular Neurology Program at University of Washington/Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Stephen Ashwal
Dr. Stephen Ashwal is a founding charter member of the International Pediatric Stroke Study and past president of the Child Neurology Society. He is also the co-editor of the standard textbook of Pediatric Neurology (‘Pediatric Neurology: Principles and Practice’). In addition, Dr. Ashwal is the Chief of the Division of Child Neurology at Loma Linda University School of Medicine and a Basic Science and Clinical Researcher in Pediatric Stroke. His research includes the use of stem cells for the treatment of neonatal stroke and hypoxic ischemic brain injury, and the use of advanced magnetic resonance imaging methods to monitor stem cell replication and migration and to monitor recovery of brain injury both structurally and functionally.
Timothy Bernard, MD, MSCS
Dr. Timothy Bernard is a pediatric neurologist and clinician scientist at the University of Colorado. Ten years ago he founded the first stroke clinic in Colorado, and currently serves as the Director of the Pediatric Stroke Program at The Children’s Hospital Colorado. He seeks to understand the mechanisms underlying childhood stroke through his NIH and AHA funded research exploring endothelial dysfunction and coagulation abnormalities in children with stroke. Dr. Bernard also serves in several educational capacities, including co-director of the AHA/Bugher Pediatric Stroke Fellowship, training the next generation of scientists dedicated to understanding and treating children with stroke.
Casey Olm-Shipman, MD, MST
Dr. Casey Olm-Shipman is a neurocritical care and vascular neurologist. She is an assistant professor in the departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, where she is a faculty member in the divisions of Neurocritical Care, Child Neurology, and Stroke. Dr. Olm-Shipman completed her residency training in Neurology and Child Neurology followed by fellowship training in Acute Stroke and Neurocritical Care at Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Currently, she is working to establish a comprehensive program in Pediatric Stroke at University of North Carolina, and is interested in further exploring systems of healthcare delivery in pediatric stroke and other pediatric neurovascular conditions.
Mark Wainwright, MD, PhD
Dr. Mark Wainwright is a pediatric neurologist, professor of Neurology and head of the Division of Neurology at Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Wainwright is a native of Liverpool, England. He completed his M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Chicago, followed by training in Pediatrics and Neurology at the University of North Carolina and Duke University.
Dr. Wainwright’s specific area of interest is in pediatric neurocritical care including cardiac arrest, refractory status epilepticus, stroke, traumatic brain injury, brain infections and neurologic complications of critical illness.
